
This guide, well, as the title says, has everything about sam and his attacks. Yeah, that’s right, I said, everything.
From all his attacks to the damage each attack does, and what movements he does to dodge the player.
And all that information, for every difficulty.
I made this guide because I was bored and said “zamn boy, I’m so bored, I should make a comprehensive list of everything about Samuel ‘jetstream’ Rodrigues from the hit hack and slash action-adventure game, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance”
Did I need to make this? No
Was I bored and needed something to do? Perhaps
Jetstream Sam’s Attacks Guide
First things first
I’m going to be making terms up for things in the game as I go along so stay with me, alright?
Block:
A block is literally as it sounds, it’s a block, and the player or sam can do it.
Parry:
A parry is when you successfully block and do a roundabout to swing at the attacker.
Defensive Offense Or Dodge:
It’s that one skill.
Erm, what else can I say?
NB:
NB stands for ‘Not Blockable’, its any attack that the player cannot block and must dodge/use defensive offense.
Total Damage:
Total Damage is referring to the TOTAL amount of damage a full 4-attack combo or single attack does.
Phase 1: Start of the fight
I’m not good at intros and stuff of that sort so let’s get straight to the point, shall we?
Let’s start with his default combos (ones that aren’t randomly made on the spot while fighting him)
It is worth noting that some of this information are approximations, as a lot of the damage values are just doubles of the previous. Even so, most of it is correct because I spent real actual days of my life collecting data.
Its also worth noting that there are certain attacks sam will only do once he has been parried once by the player, this won’t apply to revengence because haha funny phase 3 go brrr.
Attack Combos
Sword Hold Combo:

He does a series of attacks and by the last attack he pushes the end of his blade up with the palm of his hand.
Slash Sheathe Combo:
Total Damage

He does a series of attacks, after the 2nd slash, he sheathes his sword to shoot the blade out to then perform 2 more slashes.
Slash Up Thrust Combo:

This combo comprises of sam swinging his blade upwards 3 times and thrusting his blade forwards for the final attack.
Twirl combo:

(He does a little twirl so thats why i called it that)
The Twirl combo is one of the fastest ones at his ‘combo disposal’ comprising of 4 fast attacks, after the combo he does a cute little twirl at the end.
This combo is the only combo sam does that will automatically be parried on any difficulty as long as you parry his last 2 attacks (in the combo), the damage that is dealt varies, but this feature is more prominent on revengeance.
If sam is parried with any sword (excluding the wooden sword) on Revengeance, sam will take so much damage that he will immediately go into his final phase regardless if you have started phase 2 when you disarm him. Parrying him in this way will also cause him to be more aggressive with his attacks and give you less breathing room to attack him by, like i said, attacking, but by also dodging, blocking, and jumping away from the player more often. This aggressiveness will in turn make him do the “Menacing Shuffle™” less, how sad.
Single Attacks and Movement
Block:
Self Explanatory
Kick:
Total Damage
- Easy:7.5%
- Normal:15%
- Hard:22.5%
- VeryHard:30%

He does a big kick at the player showing off his giant calves, why konami (why so thick)
Revenge Kick:
Total Damage
- Easy:3.7%
- Normal:7.5%
- Hard:11.3%
- VeryHard:15%
- Rev:75%
If sam is launched into the air (i.e. the power attack launch, sky high skill, etc) once sam lands he will fling himself up and do a kick towards the player
Rising Slash:
Total Damage
- Easy:7.5%
- Normal:15%

- VeryHard:30%
- Rev:150%
Sam will lodge his sword into the ground and then charge towards the player, once he is close enough he will slash his sword upwards from the ground, usually launching the player backwards.
Sometimes if the player is in the right spot when he starts his attack, sam will circle the player for a few moments before canceling the attack and just swinging upwards at nothing.
Rush Slash:

Without much warning sam will launch forwards without much time to react.
Sam can be forced (meaning he will do it no matter what) to use this attack if the player faces away from sam and the player is far enough away. But if sam and the player are too far apart from eachother, sam will instead do a small but fast dash towards the player to close the distance, to then use the Rush Slash attack.
Falling Slash:

- Easy:7.5%
- Normal:15%
- Hard:22.5%
- VeryHard:30%
- Rev:168.8%
Sam will jump up into the air to then slash down onto the player, sam will only use this attack at medium to long ranges (unless you close the distance really quickly).
Multi Strike:

Sam will sheathe his sword into the gun sheathe, to then fire and launch a flurry of attacks (the attack can only hit the player once. This attack is not like “Draw Attack” skill the player can learn where it hits the enemy multiple times)
Charging Wave:

Sam sheathes his sword and charges a wave attack for roughly 2 seconds (thats just a guess lmao). The attack’s range is farther than his sword can physically reach.
Single Swing:

Sam swings his sword a single time.
Nothing much else I can say about it.
Side Dodge:
It’s a dodge. He dodges. Am I wrong?
Back Flip:
Yooo its another dodge! Imagine that!
Big Brazilian Man Jump:

The Menacing Shuffle:
Erm. Yeah.
The NB
Downwards Slice NB:
Total Damage
- Easy:9.4%
- Normal:18.8%
- Hard:28.1%
- VeryHard:37.5%

His sword will glow a bright yellow white color, he then swings downwards to strike the player. This attacks is not blockable and must be dodged.
Thrust NB:
Total Damage
- Easy:18.1%
- Normal:36.2%
- Hard:56.3%
- VeryHard:75%
- Rev:200+%
Same as the Downwards Slice NB, his sword will glow a bright yellow white color, he then lunges forwards quickly to impale the player. This attacks is not blockable and must be dodged.
NOTE:
There is a third NB but it’s so rare and requires certain circumstances so the footage is halfway impossible to get. sorry!
Steps to reproduce
Hold A and S, when the camera angle changes switch to holding only S, boom, done.
Phase 2
Ah, the good old phase 2. I don’t care for it that much. It’s kind of just, monotonous? I think that’s a good term for it.
Anyways let’s begin.
The Attack
Charge:

Sam Charges forwards with his hand. If sam succeeds in hitting the player, sam proceeds to show jack a cool bug that he found on the ground.
Kicks:
Sam has 2 types of kicks.
- Straight kick
- Swipe kick

- Easy:3.8
- Normal:7.5%
- Hard:11.3%
- VeryHard:15%
- Rev:75%

This is truly a Konami moment
Tripping (Trolling):
Sam has 2 variants of ways to trip jack, otherwise known as trolling

Sam Does some taekwondo bullshart on the player.
Phase 3
The last phase, here we go…
This phase only introduces 2 new attacks to the other phase 1 attacks. But this phase makes up for that by making sam the goat. All his attacks can be canceled and switched for different attacks whenever he is readying up for an attack, trying to catch the player off guard. He takes less time switching between attacks and combos, practically making new combos on the spot. In this phase he also likes to jump around alot, dodging the players attacks and jumping away to set up for an attack.
This final phase is the pinnacle of game design
Ok enough of that. On to the attacks.
Multi Dash:
Per Hit DamageNot the same as ‘Total Damage’

Sam does three slower Rush Dashes in succession. The player can ether block his attacks or time a dodge/defensive offense at the right time to get a hit in.
Rock Throw:

The rocks never change how much damage they do, fsr

Sam buries his sword into the ground and launches 4 boulders towards the player. The player must use blade mode to cut the stones or time a dodge to get out of the way of the rocks.
