Are you unhappy with the art update from patch 0.2.5 (2023.03.02) and prefer the old art? This guide is for you! Here’s how to revert to the previous art style and enjoy the game as you did before the update.
Duelyst has three generations of Generals, with the first two drawn by Chris Xia and the third by Nicola Saviori. However, in the recent Patch 0.2.5 released on March 2, 2023, the portraits of Gen 1 and 2 were redrawn by Saviori to unify the art style. This update, however, received mixed reactions from players who preferred the old art style.
How to Get Old Images
To download an archive with the old images, you can use this Google Drive link provided by the author: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dYtyYUrmx4rlmePRDY_CGwAcCRMRwooZ/view?usp=sharing
Alternatively, you can download the images from the OpenDuelyst repository: https://github.com/open-duelyst/duelyst/
How to Replace Images
First, right-click Duelyst II in the game list, or click the cog wheel and select “Manage,” then “Browse local files.” Navigate to “resources” – “app” – “src” – “resources” – “generals.”
Alternatively, manually navigate to \Steam\steamapps\common\Duelyst II\resources\app\src\resources\generals.
Replace the files in the game folder with the ones you downloaded from the previous step. You can mix and match individual images to keep the ones you prefer.
general_f is used for full artworks, and general_portrait_image_hex_f is used for portraits. The digit after “f” signifies the faction to which an image belongs, with factions following the same order as in the card collection: Lyonar, Songhai, Vetruvian, Abyssian, Magmar, Vanar.
How to Revert the Changes
To revert the changes and redownload the latest game files, right-click Duelyst II in the game list or click the cog wheel and select “Properties.” In the new window, click “Local files” – “Verify integrity of game files…”
